Renowned American fashion designer Bob Mackie, celebrated for his flamboyant and extravagant creations, has passed away at the age of 87. Dubbed the "Sultan of Sequins" and "Rajah of Rhinestones," Mackie was instrumental in shaping 1970s Hollywood glamour with his signature use of feathers, glitz, and vibrant embellishments.

Throughout his illustrious career, he designed iconic looks for entertainment legends, including Cher, Elton John, Diana Ross, Judy Garland, and Madonna. Notably, he sketched the famous gown Marilyn Monroe wore to sing "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" to John F. Kennedy in 1962. His prolific portfolio also included crafting over 17,000 costumes for The Carol Burnett Show and partnering with Mattel on limited-edition Barbie dolls.

Mackie's creative genius earned him three Academy Award nominations, nine Emmy Awards, and a 2019 Tony Award for Best Costume Design in a Musical for The Cher Show.
