
Kolkata: The father of the woman medic who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata has confirmed that he has spoken with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Shah has invited him for a meeting to discuss the case further.
However, the father did not share any details about the conversation or when and where the meeting would take place. "I have spoken to him (Amit Shah). He has called me (for a meeting). I cannot talk much about it, but the meeting will take place," the father of the deceased woman medic at the RG Kar Hospital told reporters.

Earlier, on October 22, the parents of the victim had written a letter to Amit Shah, requesting a meeting to seek guidance and assistance in securing justice for their daughter. The parents were hopeful that the Union Home Minister could offer support in the investigation.
BJP leaders in West Bengal had tried to arrange a meeting between the grieving couple and Amit Shah during his visit to Kolkata on October 27. However, the meeting did not take place. Despite this, the parents expressed no disappointment, stating that they remained optimistic about meeting Shah in the future.
Doctors’ protest
The body of the woman medic, who was on duty at the time of the incident, was found in a seminar hall at RG Kar Medical College on August 9. The woman had been raped and murdered. Following her death, junior doctors in West Bengal went on strike for over a month, demanding justice for the victim.
The protest, which lasted for 42 days, ended on September 21 after the West Bengal government promised to address the doctors' concerns and demands.
Initially, Kolkata Police handled the investigation and arrested a civic volunteer in connection with the crime. However, after the Calcutta High Court ordered, the investigation was handed over to the CBI for further probe.
