Meanwhile, political developments in the state have taken shape following the formation of a new government. Although the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) did not secure an outright majority in the Assembly, party chief C. Joseph Vijay has reportedly formed the government with support from allies including the Congress, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), CPI, CPI(M) and IUML. Together, the alliance is said to command the backing of 120 MLAs, crossing the 118-seat majority mark required to form the government in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.

Udhayanidhi Stalin on Sunday congratulated Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar on assuming office as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and extended his best wishes to the new government.
