Chennai: Tamil Nadu CM Vijay has emerged as the second wealthiest MLA in the newly elected state Assembly after declaring assets worth Rs 648 crore in his election affidavit. The actor-turned-politician also reported an income of Rs 184 crore during the last financial year, making him the highest income declarant among the newly elected legislators.

The details were revealed in an analysis conducted by the Association for Democratic Reforms and Tamil Nadu Election Watch based on affidavits submitted by 233 winning candidates in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Vijay declares massive movable and immovable assets

According to the report, Vijay has declared movable assets valued at Rs 426.20 crore and immovable assets worth Rs 222.65 crore.

While he ranks second in terms of total assets among winning MLAs, the report noted that he stands first in terms of annual income declared for the previous financial year.

AIADMK MLA tops rich list

The wealthiest legislator in the new Assembly is Leemarose Martin of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), who won from the Lalgudi Assembly constituency.

According to the findings, Leemarose Martin declared assets worth Rs 5,863 crore.

Total wealth of winning candidates crosses Rs 11,000 crore

The report further stated that the 233 winning candidates together possess total assets amounting to Rs 11,265 crore.

Election Watch data also highlighted a sharp rise in the average wealth of MLAs over the past five years.

The average assets of winning MLAs in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections stand at Rs 48.35 crore. In comparison, the average wealth per MLA in the 2021 Assembly elections was Rs 12.27 crore.

The findings suggest that the average assets of legislators in the state have nearly quadrupled during this period.

Party-wise average assets of winning MLAs

According to the Election Watch analysis, the average declared assets of winning candidates across major political parties are as follows:

The 107 victorious candidates of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) have average assets of Rs 27.09 crore.

The 59 winning candidates from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) have average assets of Rs 14.34 crore.

The 47 successful candidates from the AIADMK have average assets of Rs 152.89 crore.

The five victorious candidates from the Indian National Congress (INC) have average assets averaging Rs 17.81 crore.

Vijay takes charge as Chief Minister

Vijay, founder of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, officially took oath as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on Sunday following several days of political uncertainty and dramatic developments in the state.

During his inaugural speech, Vijay made a strong assertion about leadership within the government.

“There will be no power centre other than me. I will be the only centre of power,” he said.
