CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Assembly on Tuesday adopted a resolution urging the Union government to scrap the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and allow admission to undergraduate medical courses based on Class 12 marks.
The resolution, moved by Health Minister K G Arunraj, reiterated the state government's long-standing opposition to NEET, arguing that the examination undermines social justice, equality and the rights of states in medical education.

It also alleged that NEET adversely affects the medical education prospects of Tamil-medium students as well as those from rural and economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Members of the DMK, AIADMK, PMK and Left parties spoke in support of the resolution before it was put to a vote and adopted.
BJP MLA Bhojarajan opposed the resolution and staged a walkout from the Assembly.
The debate also saw an exchange over political remarks made by a DMK legislator. Minister Rajmohan urged members to keep politics out of the discussion, while Speaker JCD Prabhakar ordered certain remarks made by the DMK MLA to be expunged from the proceedings.
