New Delhi: Delhi Police have arrested two people in connection with the alleged murder of 31-year-old Yuvraj Singh Manchanda, whose body was recovered from a drain in Gurugram after he went missing earlier this month. Police suspect a dispute over financial transactions may have led to the killing.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Manchanda's former colleague Anya Vats and her associate Sanyam Sachdeva, both residents of Gurugram, police said.

Manchanda, a resident of Sarita Vihar, was reported missing by his sister on September 11 after the family failed to contact him for several days. He was last seen on September 6 after leaving a restaurant in Lajpat Nagar to meet Vats in Gurugram.

Former colleague emerges as prime suspect

According to police, Manchanda had gone shopping with his sister on September 6 and later visited Golden Dragon Restaurant in Lajpat Nagar-II. Around 4 pm, he left the restaurant, telling his sister that he had a meeting in Gurugram and would return home by around 10 pm.

When he did not return and his phone was switched off, his family approached the police. A missing-person case was subsequently registered at Lajpat Nagar police station.

Investigators analysed CCTV footage, technical data and call records during the probe. Police found that Manchanda's last phone call was with Vats, whom he had told his family he was going to meet.

Both phones were later switched off, following which police began monitoring Vats. Investigators eventually traced a new mobile number allegedly being used by her to Uttarakhand.

A police team travelled to Uttarakhand and apprehended Vats and Sachdeva.

Body found in Gurugram drain

During questioning, the two allegedly told police that they had murdered Manchanda and dumped his body in a drain near their house in Gurugram.

An unidentified body had been recovered from a drain under the Badshahpur police station jurisdiction on September 10. Police obtained photographs of the body and showed them to Manchanda's family, who identified him based on his appearance and clothing.

The two accused were produced before a court, which granted police five-day custody for further investigation. Police are examining forensic and technical evidence and working to establish the complete sequence of events.

Family raises questions over body handling

In a statement, Manchanda's family alleged that Gurugram Police had recovered his body on September 10, a day before the missing-person complaint was filed in Delhi.

The family further alleged that the body was cremated on September 14 in "extraordinary haste" without informing them and without following due process. They also alleged that the body had not been uploaded on ZIPNET, a database used to help identify unidentified bodies and trace missing persons.

The allegations by the family have not been independently established.

Police are continuing to question the arrested suspects to determine the motive, establish their individual roles and ascertain whether anyone else was involved. Further details are awaited.
