Kalaburagi: A police constable has been booked in two separate cases in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi district after he was allegedly involved in setting fire to a woman’s house and later torching the car of a police sub-inspector following a complaint against him. 

The accused, identified as Rajshekhar, has been accused of targeting the vehicle of Mahagaon Police Station PSI Basavaraj Chittakote at Mahagaon Cross in Kamalapur taluk.

Police are investigating the incidents, and efforts are reportedly underway to trace the constable.

According to the reported sequence of events, the first incident took place on September 13, when Rajshekhar allegedly entered the house of a woman identified as Reshma, damaged the door, and set the premises on fire.

A case was registered at Mahagaon police station based on her complaint. The constable had reportedly faced allegations of harassing the woman earlier.

Following the complaint, senior police officials initiated disciplinary action and transferred him to Chincholi police station, according to the report.

The subsequent incident involved the vehicle of PSI Basavaraj Chittakote. The car was parked outside a private room when it caught fire.

Police initially suspected that the blaze could have resulted from an electrical short circuit.

However, investigators later examined CCTV footage from the area.

The footage allegedly showed a person approaching the vehicle, pouring petrol on it and setting it on fire. Police identified the person as Rajshekhar, according to the report.

The alleged arson was reported to have occurred after a case was registered against the constable on the woman’s complaint.

Police are examining whether the attack on the PSI’s vehicle was linked to the action taken against Rajshekhar.

A second case was registered on September 14 in connection with the alleged attack on the PSI’s car.

This is in addition to the case arising from the alleged arson at the woman’s residence.

Kamalapur Circle Inspector Shivashankar Sahu and PSI Basavaraj Chittakote reportedly visited the location and inspected the scene.

Police have continued their investigation into both incidents.

The case has drawn attention because the alleged accused is himself a member of the police force, and the second incident involved the vehicle of another police officer.

The allegations, including the identity of the person seen in the CCTV footage, remain subject to investigation and due legal process.
