Gurugram Police have arrested Kalyan Bainsla, the man accused of ramming his car into a woman biker on Golf Course Road, days after footage of the incident sparked widespread outrage on social media.

Police have also added an attempt-to-murder charge to the case after examining CCTV footage of the collision.

Bainsla was arrested in Rajasthan in connection with the September 13 incident, in which the woman biker, identified on social media as Sia, was knocked off her motorcycle after the car allegedly struck her while she was riding with a group of bikers.

The impact sent her and the motorcycle skidding several metres along the road.

The incident was captured on an action camera mounted on Sia's motorcycle, and the footage was later shared online, triggering a strong reaction and prompting Gurugram Police to take suo motu cognisance of the matter.

Police had initially registered a case under provisions relating to rash driving and causing injury.

Following further examination of CCTV footage, Section 109 of the BNS, of attempt to murder, was added to the FIR, according to reports.

The accused had earlier admitted that the collision was his fault but denied deliberately hitting the biker.

Bainsla claimed that he lost control of the vehicle near a U-turn and fled because he feared that the group of bikers would attack him if he stopped.

Sia, however, rejected his explanation and questioned why he continued to drive away after the collision.

She has maintained that the car had followed her and that the collision was deliberate. She also pointed to the video footage as evidence of what happened on the road.

The case had initially gained attention after the viral footage showed the car striking the motorcycle and fleeing the scene. Police subsequently formed teams to trace the accused and identify the person driving the vehicle.

The car involved in the incident was reportedly registered in the name of an Army personnel, who said he was not driving it at the time and that the vehicle had been borrowed by Bainsla.

With Bainsla now arrested and the attempt-to-murder charge added, the investigation is expected to focus on establishing the sequence of events leading up to the collision and determining the circumstances in which the woman biker was hit.
