Kolkata: The CBI will soon file a supplementary chargesheet in the ongoing case of the rape and murder of a junior doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital. The chargesheet will focus on the tampering and alteration of evidence during the initial stages of the investigation, which was first handled by the Kolkata Police before being transferred to the CBI by the Calcutta High Court.

The supplementary chargesheet will name two individuals as conspirators in the case: Sandip Ghosh, the former Principal of R.G. Kar Medical College, and Abhijit Mondal, the former Station House Officer (SHO) of Tala Police Station. Both Ghosh and Mondal are currently in judicial custody.
Controversial testing refusals
Sources say that Ghosh and Mondal’s refusal to undergo certain tests could play a major role in the CBI’s investigation. Ghosh agreed to a polygraph test but refused to undergo a narco-analysis test, while Mondal declined to participate in the polygraph test altogether. Under Indian law, such tests can only be conducted with the consent of the individual, making their refusals a crucial point for the CBI in proving non-cooperation.
Fast-track trial to begin today
In addition to the investigation, the trial in the case will begin at a special court on Monday at 2:00 pm. The first witness to testify will be the victim’s father. The trial will proceed on a fast-track basis, with daily hearings scheduled to ensure swift justice.
CBI's first charge sheet and ongoing investigation
In its first chargesheet filed last month, the CBI identified Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer, as the “sole prime accused” in the rape and murder. The agency also hinted at the possibility of evidence tampering and alterations during the initial investigation by the Kolkata Police. As the investigation continues, the CBI is expected to uncover more details about the role of the accused and the suspected conspiracy.
