Ayodhya: As the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya reaches full completion, the spotlight turns to the sacred Dhwaja, the saffron religious flag whose ceremonial hoisting marks a defining spiritual moment for the nation. On November 25, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to perform the Dhwaja Arohan ritual, hoisting the 22-foot flag atop the temple spire, thus signifying the victory of dharma over adharma and inviting devotees from around the world to share in this historic celebration.

Dimensions and Significance

This grand flag, crafted from parachute-grade cloth and stretching 22 by 11 feet, is supported by a robust nylon rope and hoisted atop the impressive 161-foot temple spire. The act of raising the Dhwaja is steeped in ancient Hindu tradition, representing triumph and spiritual renewal.

Symbols Embodied on the Dhwaja

The Dhwaja is adorned with powerful icons: the Sun, symbolising Shri Ram’s lineage; the sacred “Om,” resonating with spiritual energy; and motifs of the Kovidar tree, known for its purity and deep scriptural importance. Primarily rendered in Kumkuma saffron, the flag’s colour stands for auspiciousness, devotion, and the eternal spirit of dharma.

Vivah Panchami

The ceremony takes place on Vivah Panchami, symbolically resonating with the divine wedding of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita, and will be attended by religious leaders, dignitaries, and a cross-section of society, including representatives from various communities. The day’s activities are synchronised with the auspicious Abhijit Muhurat, further deepening the ritual’s spiritual significance. Due to the high-profile nature of the event, Ayodhya has been placed under tight security, with public entry to the temple restricted until the afternoon to facilitate the proceedings.
