Ayodhya: Retired Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra, a veteran Indian Air Force fighter pilot and recipient of the Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal, has been selected as the first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust in Ayodhya.

Mishra’s appointment comes as the Ram Temple complex enters a new phase of development and administration. The trust also appointed three new trustees- Delhi-based Mahesh Bhagchandka, Ayodhya-based Madan Mohan Pandey and Nirmala Yadav of Shikohabad.

A decorated Air Force career

Mishra served in the Indian Air Force for more than 38 years and retired after serving as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Air Command. He was commissioned into the IAF’s fighter stream on December 6, 1986.

His military career included several senior operational and strategic assignments. He commanded a fighter squadron and two frontline air bases, served as chief test pilot at the Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment (ASTE), and held key positions at Air Headquarters.

Mishra received the Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal in 2025 for his distinguished service during Operation Sindoor. He was earlier awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2024 and the Vishisht Seva Medal in 2013.

Role in Kargil operations

Mishra was involved in the operationalisation of laser-guided bombs on Mirage 2000 aircraft during the Kargil War. The weapons were later used to strike strategic targets, including Tiger Hill and Muntho Dhalo, during Operation Safed Sagar.

Over his career, Mishra accumulated more than 3,000 hours of flying experience across over 18 types of fighter and transport aircraft and helicopters.

He also held senior positions involving operational planning, projects, doctrine and military coordination, including Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff for Operations.

What did Mishra say about Operation Sindoor?

Mishra has also spoken publicly about Operation Sindoor. In a recent podcast interview, he discussed aspects of the air campaign and the planning and coordination involved in striking targets deep inside Pakistan.

He highlighted the importance of precision, technology, planning and coordination between different arms of the armed forces. Some operational details remain classified.

From military command to Ram Temple administration

Mishra’s extensive experience in managing large organisations and coordinating complex operations is expected to be relevant to his new role.

As CEO, he is expected to oversee the day-to-day administration of the temple trust, including coordination of staff, pilgrim facilities, finances, security-related arrangements and large religious events.

His appointment marks a transition from one of the IAF’s senior command positions to a key administrative role at the Ram Janmabhoomi temple complex.

Mishra’s connection to Uttar Pradesh

Mishra has roots in Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh and is originally from Bhopatpura, around three hours by road from Ayodhya. He comes from a middle-class family; his father was a lecturer.

Mishra retired from the IAF in April 2026 after a career spanning more than three decades. He now takes charge as the first CEO of the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
