Andhra Pradesh has taken a major leap toward next-generation aviation with the launch of India’s first 500-acre eVTOL Giga Campus, a landmark project set to accelerate the country’s capabilities in advanced aerospace manufacturing and Urban Air Mobility (UAM).

The facility, developed by Sarla Aviation in partnership with the Andhra Pradesh government, is positioned to become one of the world’s largest and most sophisticated hubs for electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

The project gained formal momentum after the signing of a major Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sarla Aviation and the state government, followed by its official handover during a special ceremony.

The event was attended by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, and Andhra Pradesh Minister for Roads, Buildings, Infrastructure, and Investment BC Janardhan Reddy—whose support, Sarla Aviation noted, played a crucial role in advancing the initiative.

Spread over 500 acres, the upcoming Giga Campus will house India’s first fully integrated ecosystem for eVTOL manufacturing and operations.

It will feature dedicated zones for design, development, production, testing, certification, training, and maintenance, offering an end-to-end platform for futuristic clean-energy aviation.

The initial investment stands at ₹1,300 crore, with multiple expansion stages planned.

Once fully operational, the campus aims to achieve an annual production capacity of up to 1,000 eVTOL aircraft, placing India among a select group of global hubs such as California and Munich that currently dominate the sector.

Officials said the project is poised to attract international talent, create thousands of high-skilled jobs, and significantly boost India’s footprint in the rapidly emerging electric and autonomous aircraft market.

Sarla Aviation’s Co-Founder and CTO Rakesh Gaonkar described the facility as a “sky factory of the future,” emphasising that the mission is to enable India to “design, build, test, fly, and operate the world’s most advanced eVTOL systems from one integrated campus.”

The project aligns closely with national goals under Viksit Bharat 2047 and supports the state’s Swarna Andhra 2047 vision of technological progress and global competitiveness.

The giga campus is expected to play a transformative role in developing sustainable, low-emission mobility solutions for both urban and regional transport.

With its comprehensive infrastructure—ranging from R&D labs and pilot-training schools to maintenance bays and test tracks—India’s first eVTOL campus is set to propel the nation into a new era of clean and efficient aerial mobility.
