Akasa Air has joined the International Air Transport Association, making it one of only five Indian airlines to be part of the global aviation industry body.

Akasa Air, India’s youngest airline, has become a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), a global organisation representing over 360 airlines worldwide. With this, Akasa Air has joined a limited group of Indian carriers that are part of IATA, which currently includes Air India, Air India Express, IndiGo and SpiceJet.
IATA is the principal international body for the airline industry and plays a key role in setting global safety, security and operational standards. Membership is granted only to airlines that meet strict international benchmarks, particularly in safety and operational efficiency.

Akasa Air became eligible for IATA membership after successfully completing the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA). The IOSA is a comprehensive and globally recognised audit that evaluates an airline’s operational management and control systems, ensuring compliance with international aviation safety standards.
Through its IATA membership, Akasa Air will now participate in global airline consultations and contribute to discussions shaping future aviation policies. The airline will also collaborate with international carriers on enhancing flight safety, adopting digital technologies and supporting environmentally sustainable aviation practices, which are increasingly critical for the future of global air travel.
Commenting on the development, Akasa Air founder and CEO Vinay Dubey said the membership would strengthen the airline’s global standing and support its growth as a modern, future-ready carrier aligned with international best practices.
Akasa Air currently operates a fleet of 31 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and serves 26 domestic destinations along with six international routes. Since its founding in 2020, the airline has positioned itself as a fast-growing low-cost carrier focused on affordable, safe and reliable air travel while adhering to global standards.
With its entry into IATA, Akasa Air has taken a significant step towards strengthening its international presence and contributing to India’s growing footprint in global aviation.
