New Delhi: An Air India flight from Bengaluru to Delhi declared a full emergency while approaching the national capital on Thursday evening after a suspected engine fire alert, according to sources.

Flight AI2802 landed safely at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport at around 9.30 pm. Sparks were reportedly seen in one of the aircraft’s engines before landing, prompting the emergency procedure.

The aircraft, an Airbus A320, was carrying 171 passengers. All passengers and crew were reported safe after the landing.

Runway operations briefly affected after landing

The aircraft touched down on runway 29R and was later towed away for further checks.

Following the landing, runway operations at IGI Airport were briefly disrupted and resumed at around 10.18 pm.

Air India said it is reviewing the incident and gathering further details in coordination with aviation authorities. The airline confirmed that the aircraft landed safely and that all passengers and crew were unharmed, while inspections and information gathering were underway.

Earlier incident reported in Bengaluru on the same day

Earlier on Thursday, another Air India aircraft experienced a separate incident in Bengaluru. The flight, carrying 181 passengers, suffered a tailstrike during landing.
