Alathur: Even if he is hungry or not, he is being fed good food—and occasionally bananas too... The police are keeping a close watch while feeding the thief. All this effort is to recover a necklace that the thief swallowed.

X-rays have to be taken at regular intervals to confirm the position of the necklace. His waste has to be collected in a cover and examined to check if the necklace has come out. Meanwhile, two policemen are taking shifts to ensure the accused doesn’t escape from the district hospital ward.

On Sunday night around 9 PM, during a temple festival at Melarkode, Muthappan (34) from Madura snatched a gold necklace from a three-year-old girl. The child’s grandmother raised an alarm. Locals caught him and conducted a body search, but the necklace wasn’t found. It was later confirmed that he swallowed it. Police took him into custody and an X-ray at the hospital confirmed the necklace was inside his stomach.

Since the necklace is not a digestible object, it won’t come out quickly with the waste. “We expect it to move down within two days,” said Alathur Police Inspector TN Unnikrishnan. Until then, the police will continue with their special duty. The next steps in the case will only proceed once the necklace is recovered.

Thief swallowed necklace; X-ray confirms

Alathur: Even after 24 hours since the theft, the Alathur police are anxiously waiting for the recovery of the stolen item. On Sunday night, the thief swallowed the gold necklace after snatching it. After taking the accused into custody and admitting him to the hospital, an X-ray confirmed the gold chain was inside his stomach. The thief was admitted to the district hospital and given medication to help induce bowel movement. Only once the necklace is recovered can further legal proceedings take place. However, even on Monday, the necklace still hadn’t come out.

The stolen necklace belonged to Nakshatra, daughter of Vinod from Pattanchery in Chittur. The necklace is estimated to weigh 6 grams.
