Bunty Chor released; police confirm no criminal activity, visit linked to legal matters.

Kochi: Notorious burglar Bunty Chor, real name Devendra Singh, was released from police custody on Monday evening after being held overnight at Ernakulam South Railway Station.
Bunty was taken into preventive custody on Sunday night after police grew suspicious of his presence at the station. CCTV footage confirmed his movements.
Preliminary questioning raised doubts about his statements, prompting authorities to detain him for further verification.
After detailed interrogation, police concluded Bunty showed no signs of suspicious activity or criminal intent. He told officers he had come to Kochi to meet Advocate B.A. Aloor regarding a High Court order for the return of personal belongings, including money and wristwatches allegedly seized during his previous incarceration.
Bunty said he only learned upon arriving at Ernakulam that Advocate Aloor had passed away earlier this year. Unsure of his next steps, he remained at the station before being detained.
Legal matters, not crime
Following his release, Bunty reportedly visited Aloor’s office seeking guidance on reclaiming his belongings. Police confirmed he has no active criminal cases in Kerala requiring detention.
Authorities released him after verifying that his visit was linked solely to legal matters, with no unlawful activity involved.
From feared burglar to legal visitor
Once widely feared for breaching sophisticated security systems and executing daring thefts, Bunty Chor rose to notoriety nearly a decade ago.
His brief detention attracted public attention, given his criminal past, but police stressed the release came after confirming all claims and the absence of pending warrants.
