A Rs 12 crore burglary allegedly linked to a Nepali nationals gang has raised serious concerns over gaps in domestic hiring verification and household security systems in India.

Lucknow: Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Bilaspur have arrested members of a gang of Nepali nationals accused of carrying out a high-value burglary in Telangana, in which jewellery and valuables worth around Rs 12 crore were reportedly stolen.
The case has triggered a wider discussion on security lapses in residential environments and the risks linked to unverified domestic access.

According to preliminary investigations, the accused allegedly targeted a prominent residence in Telangana after identifying it as a high-value property. The group is believed to have used coordinated planning and burglary tools to break into the house and steal gold, diamonds, and other valuables. Following the crime, they reportedly split into smaller groups and attempted to move across state borders to avoid detection.

Police sources indicate that the suspects attempted to erase digital traces and move towards northern India, with the possible intent of crossing into Nepal. Technical surveillance and inter-agency coordination played a key role in tracking their movements across multiple states.
Recovery of stolen valuables
During the arrest operation, investigators reportedly recovered a significant portion of the stolen jewellery from the accused. Forensic teams are now verifying and documenting the recovered items to support ongoing legal proceedings in Telangana, where the main case is registered.
The case has intensified scrutiny over household security practices, particularly the verification of domestic help and security staff. Police have issued advisories urging citizens to conduct proper background checks and use official registration platforms when hiring individuals for trusted household roles.
