The Kozhikode Cyber Police has arrested celebrity makeup artist Jaanmoni Das following a complaint by Mahila Morcha over defamatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, releasing her on bail shortly after.

Kozhikode (Kerala): The Kozhikode City Cyber Police has arrested celebrity makeup artist Jaanmoni Das in a case involving alleged offensive remarks made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She was summoned to the police station after being served a notice.
As the charges leveled against her constitute bailable offences, she was released on bail after recording her arrest. The police action followed a formal complaint submitted by Mahila Morcha state president Navya Haridas to the Kozhikode City Police Commissioner.
The allegation against Jaanmoni is that she made derogatory statements targeting the Prime Minister in a video shared across social media platforms. Police registered the case under Sections 192 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause a riot) and 356(2) (criminal defamation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), alongside relevant provisions of the Kerala Police Act. According to the First Information Report (FIR), she circulated the defamatory video with the intention of inciting public rioting and breaching communal peace.
Following the outrage surrounding the incident, Jaanmoni released a clarification video. She stated that she lacks fluency in Malayalam and that the controversial statement was simply an accidental error in language. She subsequently shared another video admitting her mistake and tendering an unconditional apology to the public.
