Gwalior: A 17-year-old girl is battling for her life after she was allegedly attacked with an axe and thrown from the roof of her house by a youth accused of stalking and harassing her in Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri district.
The teenager, who suffered multiple serious injuries, is currently undergoing treatment at the Trauma Centre in Gwalior. Police have arrested the accused in connection with the incident.
Family alleges brutal attack
According to the victim's mother, the girl was alone at home when the accused allegedly entered the house on Friday.
"As soon as the boy entered the house and started harassing her, she went to the terrace. The boy followed her. He pulled her hair and attacked her with an axe," she told IANS.
The mother alleged that local residents witnessed the attack and attempted to intervene but were threatened by the accused.
"Later, he tied her with a rope and attempted to hang her, before throwing her from the roof. My daughter was almost half dead," she said.
She further claimed that the accused had been stalking and harassing her daughter for some time.
"We had tried to make him understand multiple times, but were threatened by him."
Attack linked to rejected advances, says family
The victim's father alleged that the assault was triggered after his daughter rejected the accused's advances.
"The accused tried to flee from the village but was caught by my elder brother," he said.
He further claimed that police had arrested the accused along with three members of his family.
Demand for compensation and better treatment
The incident has sparked outrage among local residents, who have demanded strict action against the accused.
Local resident Rahul said: "We are standing by the victim's family and have demanded Rs. 40 lakh compensation and a government job from the Chief Minister. Bulldozer action should be taken against the accused and his family."
He also expressed concerns over the medical care being provided to the teenager.
Claiming that the victim is not receiving proper treatment at the Trauma Centre, he appealed to the government to shift the teenager to a private hospital.
Providing an update on her condition, Dr Aditya Tiwari, ICU In-charge at Trauma Centre, JAH, said: "We have been told that she was attacked due to a previous enmity. Her condition is critical yet stable, and I can't comment further. She has fractures in her jaw and hip. We are hopeful that we will save her."
Police are continuing their investigation into the case.
