Ahead of the grand Jagannath Rath Yatra on July 16, artisans in Prayagraj are meticulously crafting exquisite Navratna crowns embedded with glittering gemstones to adorn the deities.
As the Jagannath Rath Yatra 2026 draws closer, master artisans in Prayagraj are working tirelessly to create magnificent gem-studded crowns and sacred ornaments for Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra, blending centuries-old craftsmanship with exquisite Navratna artistry.
Artisans say the precious gemstones have been specially sourced from Jaipur, while local craftsmen are collaborating with experts from Odisha and Rajasthan to ensure authenticity and fine detailing. According to the Jagannath Yatra Committee, more than one lakh gemstones, including 175 large stones, are being carefully assembled into the divine ornaments.
The handcrafted crowns are expected to be completed before the grand festival begins. The three-day Jagannath Rath Yatra, one of India's most revered Hindu festivals, will commence on July 16, drawing thousands of devotees to witness the deities adorned in their magnificent new ornaments.
