The Mumbai Fire Brigade flagged off a mobile Education Van to enhance fire safety awareness and emergency preparedness across the city.

Beginning Tuesday, the van will tour housing societies, schools, and commercial complexes, offering hands-on demonstrations, awareness sessions, and basic fire safety training to residents, students, and staff.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade, which functions under the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), also announced a special fire safety inspection drive to be carried out between December 20 and 28 to check compliance with safety norms.

Officials said Mumbai has a strong fire prevention and response mechanism in place, adding that initiatives such as inspections and public outreach could help prevent incidents like the recent deadly fire at a Goa nightclub that claimed 25 lives.

During a similar inspection drive last year, the fire department inspected 731 establishments and took action against 12 for failing to comply with prescribed fire safety regulations.
