The Kashmir Valley is witnessing an unusual dry spell, leaving tourists disappointed and affecting local businesses dependent on winter tourism. Popular destinations like Gulmarg have seen little to no snowfall this season, dampening the festive winter mood.

 

Tourists continue to admire the scenic beauty of Kashmir, but many have expressed disappointment over missing out on a snow-filled winter vacation. The lack of snowfall has impacted Kashmir tourism, with hoteliers, tour operators and local shops reporting reduced footfall and earnings.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has urged residents to conserve water amid the dry spell, emphasising the broader effects of unusual weather patterns on the region.

The Valley is now in anticipation of Chillai Kalan, the harshest 40-day winter season that begins around December 21 and is expected to bring snowfall to Kashmir, according to the meteorological department.
