Jharkhand milk production is witnessing tremendous growth, helping strengthen the rural economy and create new income opportunities across villages. Over the last five to six years, the state has steadily increased dairy output, with nearly 300,000 litres of milk now being produced every day.

A major contributor to this growth is the state government’s incentive of ₹5 per litre, encouraging more farmers and women to actively participate in dairy farming. Local milk sellers say dairy has become a more stable and profitable source of income compared to traditional farming.

To support the sector, village-level milk testing, collection, and chilling facilities have expanded across the state. A 3,000-litre Bulk Milk Cooler (BMC) in Gadri Village, Ranchi, is helping farmers safely store and market milk.

Jharkhand currently operates 154 BMCs with a combined capacity of 3.6 lakh litres and aims to increase this to 5 lakh litres per day by 2029.
