This initiative aims to support dairy farmers and over 1,000 primary cooperative societies across Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kottayam, and Idukki.

Kochi: The Ernakulam Regional Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union (ERCMPU) of Milma on Monday declared a supplementary incentive of Rs 2 per litre for milk collected via its network of dairy cooperative societies throughout the month of May.
Milma, the cooperative brand managed by the state of Kerala, serves as the primary intermediary for purchasing dairy commodities from local farmers and distributing them to the public.
According to an official statement, the increased procurement rate will be applied to all milk supplied between May 11 and May 31. C.N. Valsalan Pillai, the Union Chairman, noted that the incentive was authorised during a recent session of the organisation’s governing body.
"The benefit will be extended to dairy farmers and primary milk cooperative societies functioning under the union across Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kottayam, and Idukki districts," the statement said.
The initiative is projected to provide financial support to more than 1,000 primary dairy cooperatives operating within the region. Additionally, Milma officials confirmed that the organisation is currently evaluating a potential retail price adjustment for its dairy products in response to sustained requests from the farming community.
