Israeli Ambassador to India Reuven Azar has asserted Israel’s right to self-defence, questioned Pakistan’s role as a mediator

Israeli Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, has reiterated that Israel will continue to exercise its right to self-defense irrespective of Iran's approval, emphasizing that national security remains a top priority.
Speaking on regional security issues, Azar questioned Pakistan's credibility as a mediator in conflicts, expressing doubts about its reliability in facilitating peace efforts.
He also highlighted Israel's recent strategic gains, stating that Hezbollah's military capabilities have been significantly weakened and that Iran's regime is now in a weaker position than before.
Referring to the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, 2025, Azar said the incident bore similarities to the October 7 attacks on Israel.
He further noted that Israel and the United States share a common view regarding the threat posed by nuclear weapons programs. Dismissing reports of tensions between Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu, Azar said bilateral ties remain strong.
