Sanaa: India has sought further information about an incident involving a yacht carrying 14 Indian nationals off the Yemeni coast after Houthi forces claimed that Saudi Arabia had targeted the vessel in the Red Sea.

The Indian Embassy in Yemen said on Thursday that it was gathering details of the incident and assured all possible assistance to safeguard the Indian nationals on board.

"We have seen reports regarding an incident involving 14 Indian nationals on board a yacht off the coast of Yemen today. We are ascertaining further details about the incident and will provide all possible help for ensuring the safety and well-being of the Indian nationals," the Embassy of India in Yemen posted on X.

The statement came after Yemen's Houthis alleged that Saudi forces had attacked an Indian yacht near Zuqar Island in the southern Red Sea. The group claimed that its forces had launched an operation to rescue the 14 Indians aboard the vessel.

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the information available was preliminary and that further details would be released later.

"The Saudi enemy is targeting an Indian yacht near Zuqar Island, carrying 14 people of Indian nationality, according to preliminary information. The Yemeni Armed Forces are rescuing them and will provide more details later. This reckless act by the Saudi enemy in targeting it threatens international navigation in the Red Sea, and the international community must stop the Saudi enemy from these reckless actions," Saree had posted on X.

There was no immediate independent confirmation of the alleged Saudi attack or the condition of those aboard the yacht. Indian authorities have not confirmed the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The development comes amid escalating tensions in the region, with attacks on civilian facilities and energy infrastructure raising concerns over the safety of Indian nationals in West Asia.

A day earlier, an attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, claimed two lives, including that of an Indian national. Two other Indians were injured in the incident, according to the Indian Embassy in Riyadh.

New Delhi subsequently condemned the attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, including strikes targeting the Dammam airport and Saudi Aramco's Shaybah oil field.

"We strongly condemn the continued attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, including the attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam and Saudi Aramco's Shaybah oil field in the Eastern Province on October 21. These attacks have unfortunately resulted in civilian deaths and injuries," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement.

India also expressed hope that peace and normalcy would be restored in the region at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the Houthis have accused Saudi forces of conducting air and missile strikes across multiple Yemeni provinces this week, further intensifying tensions.
