On Tuesday evening, severe cyclonic storm "Montha" made landfall close to Machilipatnam, bringing with it strong winds and a lot of rain, which caused daily life to be disrupted in several Andhra Pradesh coastal districts.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the landfall process began around 7 PM, as the cyclone crossed the coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, close to Kakinada. The storm uprooted trees, damaged power lines, and caused temporary outages in multiple areas. Officials worked through the night to restore essential services and clear debris.

Local residents credited timely precautionary measures for minimising the cyclone’s impact and preventing casualties. “Authorities and the police department are reviewing the situation. They are moving around and observing the conditions. There is no loss of life. People are being taken good care of. The cyclone has not affected us much. Now, light rains are occurring, and the weather is fine,” said local resident Kesava Rao.

Meanwhile, another resident, Haribabu, said municipal workers responded promptly to clear fallen trees and restore normalcy. “The trees here fell down last night. The municipality workers came and cleared the roads. There is no loss of life. People living in huts were shifted to safe places. They said electricity will be restored by evening. The fallen trees were removed using JCBs,” he said.

In Gopannapalem village, strong winds caused huge damage, said Arjun Rao, another local resident. “Many trees were uprooted. The winds were very strong around 6 PM, and we felt scared. Officials reached immediately with JCBs, removed the fallen trees, and cleared the roads,” he added.
