A wild elephant attack in Akambadam, Nilambur has once again highlighted the growing human-wildlife conflict in Kerala. The elephant reportedly broke through a solar-powered electric fence and entered a private farm at Mathilmoola, causing extensive crop destruction.

The affected farmer, Nalakath Siddique, said the elephant damaged more than 100 banana trees, over 200 cassava plants, around 100 pineapple plants and 12 areca nut trees. According to him, the animal crossed the barrier after trampling the fence and covering parts of it with tree branches.

Residents claim repeated wild elephant attacks across Chaliyar Panchayat have damaged farms and even compound walls, but authorities have yet to take effective action.

Siddique said elephants have raided his 10-acre farm seven times in the past two months. Farmers are now demanding immediate intervention to prevent further losses and protect livelihoods.
