Mumbai: Sujeeth’s latest gangster drama They Call Him OG, starring Pawan Kalyan in the lead, has stormed the domestic box office by surpassing the Telugu earnings of his previous directorial ‘Saaho’ (2019), which featured Prabhas.

The new action-crime thriller has collected ₹154.85 crore in India within six days, overtaking Saaho’s ₹152.68 crore run in the Telugu market.

On day 6 (Tuesday), the film registered ₹7.25 crore, a slight drop from day 5 (Monday) earnings of ₹7.5 crore. The weekend saw higher numbers, with ₹18.45 crore on Friday (day 2), followed by ₹18.5 crore each on Saturday (day 3) and Sunday (day 4).

Its biggest spike came on opening day (Thursday, day 1), when it minted ₹63.75 crore across all languages, one of the highest single-day openings for an Indian film. A day prior, the film had already raked in ₹21 crore from paid previews, according to Sacnilk. The Pawan Kalyan starrer has also gone past the Telugu box office collections of Prabhas ‘Adipurush’ (₹133.28 crore).

The bulk of its business comes from the original Telugu version, while dubbed Hindi, Tamil, and Kannada versions have contributed comparatively smaller shares.

Globally, ‘They Call Him OG’ has already crossed the ₹250 crore mark worldwide, adding to the film’s blockbuster status.

The film, co-starring Emraan Hashmi as the antagonist, has a narrow window to maximize its dominance. With the twin holidays of Dussehra and Gandhi Jayanti on Thursday, it will face strong competition from Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’, a prequel to his 2022 hit ‘Kantara’.

The Kannada epic is releasing in multiple languages, including Telugu, Hindi, and Tamil, posing a direct challenge.

In the Hindi belt, ‘They Call Him OG’ also has to contend with Shashank Khaitan’s rom-com Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, which opens this week.
