As controversy continues to swirl around Malayalam film producer Listin Stephen’s cryptic comments about an unnamed actor, Nivin Pauly has issued a measured yet pointed response. Without directly naming anyone, Pauly urged even those who are selfish and threaten others to remain kind-hearted.

Speaking at an event related to the Kottarakara Padinjattinkara Sree Mahadeva Temple festival, where actor Manju Warrier was also present as a guest, Pauly said, “On my way here, I saw a flex board that read ‘May you have a good heart’. That is all I have to say to everyone. If we can all live with love, peace, and kindness, that would be a beautiful thing.”

Pauly continued: “In life, we come across many such people. But we also come across people who are the opposite — those who think only of themselves, who speak in threatening tones. To them too, I have just one message: Be a person with a good heart, with a good mind. When we move forward with love and joy, everything becomes possible.”

The actor went on to express gratitude to his audience, referencing past difficulties: “Last year, when I faced a tough time, it was the audience who stood by me the most. It was the people — you — who supported me. Wherever I go, I express my gratitude. You all stood with me without hesitation, regardless of gender. For that, I thank each and every one of you. I will continue to bring you good films.”

The backdrop to these remarks is a growing speculation that Pauly was the target of an earlier controversial statement by producer Listin Stephen. While promoting his upcoming film Baby Girl, Stephen remarked that “a leading actor in Malayalam cinema is heading in the wrong direction.” Although he refrained from naming anyone, he warned that if the actor continued on this path, “it could lead to serious consequences.”

The remarks sparked widespread speculation that Stephen was referring to Nivin Pauly, especially following reports that Pauly had exited Baby Girl, a film produced by Listin. However, the film’s director, Arun Varma, dismissed these claims and denied any such fallout.

When later questioned by journalists about whether the unnamed actor was indeed Nivin Pauly, Listin Stephen refused to confirm or deny. “Did I say anything against the actor you’re referring to? If I have to speak, I will do so at the right time, without fear,” he said, adding, “Even if I can’t make films tomorrow, it doesn’t matter. I’ve earned enough to afford a bowl of porridge.”

The situation remains unresolved, with both parties maintaining public composure while rumours continue to circulate in the Malayalam film industry.
