The makers of Mollywood Times are facing legal action after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) alleged that scenes and dialogues removed during the certification process were included in the version screened in theatres.

Kochi: A police case has been registered against the makers of the Malayalam film Mollywood Times, starring Naslen, following a complaint by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The board has alleged that scenes and dialogues removed or modified during the certification process were included in the version screened in theatres.
According to the complaint filed by the Regional Officer of the CBFC with the police, the film was granted a 'U/A 16+' certificate after certain changes were made. These included the removal of specific scenes and the muting of dialogues deemed objectionable by the board.
However, the CBFC has alleged that the theatrical version did not incorporate these mandated changes. The complaint claims that previously deleted portions were restored and muted dialogues were presented without censorship, in violation of the provisions of the Cinematograph Act.
Based on the complaint, police have registered an FIR against the film's director, producer, distributor and digital content creator. Authorities have begun further investigation into the matter.
Violations under the Cinematograph Act can attract a prison sentence of up to three years, a fine of up to ₹1 lakh or both.
The action that the CBFC may take against the filmmakers in the coming days is expected to be closely watched.
Directed by Abhinav Sunder Nayak, Mollywood Times was released in theatres on June 5 and received positive responses from both critics and audiences.
The psychological dark comedy follows the coming-of-age journey of a young aspiring filmmaker determined to make a timeless debut feature, while navigating a series of personal and professional challenges.
The film was produced by Ashiq Usman under the banner of Ashiq Usman Productions.
