Actor Swasika has revealed that she was offered the role of Telugu superstar Ram Charan's mother in an upcoming film, but declined the part, citing discomfort with the character. The actor made the revelation during a recent interview, where she discussed her approach to choosing roles in other-language films.

According to Swasika, she was approached for the role in the Telugu film Peddi, a high-budget production. However, she chose to turn it down, stating, “I was shocked when I was offered the role of Ram Charan’s mother. It was a big film, but I said no. I chose not to do it.”

The discussion came in response to a question about whether she is selective when choosing roles in non-Malayalam films. Swasika explained that roles often come to her organically, rather than through calculated choices. “I’m not particularly selective. Some roles just come my way naturally. For instance, I didn’t actively choose Lubber Pandhu or Maaman. The directors were friends, and after watching my performance, I was offered roles one after another,” she said.

Swasika added that she only accepts roles that resonate with her on some level. “There were certain elements I liked in those films, which is why I agreed. But when I started receiving multiple offers for mother roles, I became more careful and selective,” she stated.

Following her comments, fans took to social media to question the casting decision, pointing out the minimal age difference between Swasika and Ram Charan. While Ram Charan was born in 1985, Swasika was born in 1991—raising eyebrows over the suitability of the role.

Swasika’s candid response has reignited conversations about age-appropriate casting in Indian cinema, particularly the tendency to cast relatively young actors in older roles opposite male stars.
