Kochi: Kerala High Court refused to stay the release of Dileep starrer movie Thankamani. As a result, the film is set to hit big screens on Thursday in 33 countries.
The film is based on a real incident that happened in Thankamany, Idukki, in October 1986.
The bench of Justice Devan Ramachandran issued the verdict after an in-camera proceedings on Wednesday.
The movie revolves around a dispute over a bus service, which resulted in a police baton charge and gunfire.
V.R. Biju, who had filed the petition, alleges that the movie's title is defamatory, misrepresents events and therefore violates 5(b) of the Cinematograph Act.
The petitioner had earlier approached the court seeking to remove the alleged fictitious scenes from the movie, which was disposed of by Justice Devan Ramachandran. The petition was settled after the Censor Board assured the court that the issues raised in the complaint would be examined during the screening. However, as the Censor Board gave certification to the film, a fresh petition was moved against its release. The secret hearing was heard in this particular petition.
