Kochi: Kerala High Court has tasked the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to take the final decision on a petition seeking to change the title of the upcoming Malayalam movie 'Thankamani', written and directed by Ratheesh Raghunandan, starring Dileep in the lead role.

The High Court clarified that there is no stay on the censor proceedings, and the censor board can take an appropriate decision after watching the film. Earlier, the High Court has asked the Centre whether the CBFC has powers to change the name of a movie if it is found to be stigmatic or likely to create law and order issues.

The film is set to release in the coming months. The makers plan to announce the release date after receiving the green light from the censor board.

Based on a real-life incident from 1986, the movie is produced by R. B. Choudary under Super Good Films and Raaffi Mathirra under Iffaar Media.

The ensemble cast includes Neeta Pillai, Pranitha Subhash, Sudev Nair, Ajmal Ameer, Shine Tom Chacko, Siddique, Malavika Menon, Manoj K. Jayan, Major Ravi and others.
