In the wake of growing criticism over the portrayal of villainous characters in the film Empuraan, which some Hindu nationalist organisations claim is offensive, Union Minister of State Suresh Gopi refused to respond to media queries regarding the movie.

During a press interaction, Gopi interrupted a reporter who attempted to question him about Empuraan, repeatedly asking the journalist to pose “positive questions” instead.

While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has not issued an official stance against Empuraan, BJP leaders, workers, and affiliates of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and other Hindu nationalist groups have expressed personal disapproval of the film.

Following the backlash, the film’s production team has decided to remove several controversial scenes. This move comes on the directive of the producers, who have opted to mute certain dialogues and cut specific sequences. The edited version of Empuraan is expected to hit theatres by Wednesday.

Released on March 27, Empuraan has already crossed the ₹100 crore mark within its first two days, showcasing its massive box office appeal despite the controversy.
