Actor and screenwriter Murali Gopy has hinted at the possibility of a third instalment in the Lucifer franchise, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and starring Mohanlal in the lead role. The first film, Lucifer, scripted by Murali Gopy, was followed by the sequel Empuraan, which had sparked significant controversy. Amid this backdrop, speculation has grown among fans as to whether the already announced third part will materialise.

Speaking in an interview with a YouTube channel, Murali Gopy expressed optimism about the project’s future. He clarified that from the outset, the Lucifer franchise was conceptualised as a trilogy. “The first two parts have been released. Naturally, the third should follow,” he stated.

When asked why he chose to remain silent during the controversies surrounding Empuraan, Murali responded, “I was silent because I didn’t feel the need to respond. I stand firmly by my film. I believe that the film should speak for itself. When a film is capable of communicating on its own, why should I intervene?”

Addressing whether he was disheartened by the public discourse shifting away from the artistic merits of the film to external matters, Murali Gopy said, “We live in a society with many constraints. While we are made to believe that we live in a free, democratic nation, the reality often differs. It’s unrealistic to claim that one won’t feel frustrated—anyone would. But all we can do is learn to live with it. That’s what I do. I don’t allow such things to affect me beyond a point. If they do, I won’t be able to function. I will do what I can within the framework of Indian law, and I make no apologies for that,” he added.

The future of the Lucifer trilogy remains a topic of interest for Malayalam cinema enthusiasts, particularly as discussions continue around the film’s themes, creative direction, and the challenges faced by its makers.
