Tamil actor Suriya, who is currently in the spotlight for his upcoming movie Kanguva, has shared an interesting revelation during a recent interview. The actor, promoting his new film set to release this Thursday, spoke about how Bollywood star Aamir Khan played a key role in making him known to audiences in North India.

Aamir Khan's influence on Suriya's popularity

Suriya opened up about how Aamir Khan helped introduce him to the North Indian audience. The actor was responding to a question from actress Disha Patani, who asked him which of the Bollywood remakes of his films he liked the most. He explained that Aamir Khan often spoke highly of the original Tamil films when discussing their Bollywood remakes, making sure to mention the actors and directors from the original version.

"For those who don't know, some of my films were remade in Bollywood. Kaakha Kaakha became Force, Ghajini kept the same title in Hindi, and Singham was remade with the same name, though with many changes. Finally, Soorarai Pottru was remade as Sarfira," Suriya said.

"Usually, when a film is remade, the original actors and directors are not mentioned. But I believe Aamir Khan is the first to always credit the original film, its actors, and directors. The reason people in North India know me, even though they don't speak Tamil, is because Aamir Sir kept mentioning my name," he added.

Suriya also reflected on the success of Ghajini, which was remade in Hindi with Aamir Khan in the lead role. He expressed that Ghajini is one of those rare films that transcends language barriers and added that he admires Aamir Khan's performance in the Hindi version.
