Diya Suriya, the daughter of Tamil actors Suriya and Jyotika, is now being celebrated for her compelling student documentary titled Leading Light: The Untold Stories of Women Behind the Scenes. The 13-minute film sheds light on the challenges faced by female gaffers and features the stories of two gaffers, as well as one who later became a cinematographer.

Diya’s documentary stands out for addressing important issues of discrimination in the entertainment sector. Her work has been recognised at the Triloka International Filmfare Awards, where it won two prestigious awards: Best Screenwriter for Diya and Best Student Short Film for the documentary.

Jyotika took to social media to express her pride in her daughter’s achievements, posting, "Proud of you, Diya, for making such a meaningful documentary on the discrimination faced by female gaffers in the industry. Keep it up, and thank you for highlighting this important issue." She also shared a link to the short film.

Suriya also shared his joy on Instagram, expressing his pride in Diya’s documentary. He wrote, "Dear Diya, I am incredibly proud of you for making this documentary! Meanwhile, Suriya is busy preparing for the release of his upcoming film Kanguva, scheduled for November 14th, while Jyotika is focused on her role as a producer and selectively choosing acting projects.
