Kochi: The Kochi Cyber Police has arrested a man for circulating pirated version of Unni Mukundan’s latest film Marco. The accused, identified as Aquib Fanan, a BTech student from Aluva, was apprehended for sharing the movie’s link on social media.
According to the Kochi City Cyber Police, during initial interrogation, Aquib revealed that he did not film the movie himself in theatres. Instead, he admitted to sharing the link he had received from someone else in an attempt to boost his Instagram reach. The police are continuing to question Aquib to gather further details about who originally provided him with the link.
The issue came to light when Marco's producer Shareef Muhammed filed a complaint with the police, reporting that a pirated version of the film was being circulated on social media. Shareef also provided the authorities with information about the accounts involved in the spread of the pirated link.
Marco, produced by Shareef Muhammed under the banner of Cubes Entertainments and directed by Haneef Adeni, has emerged as one of the biggest hits of the year. The movie, which was released on December 20, has already made over ₹50 crore at the box office. With its intense action sequences and unique portrayal of violence unprecedented not just in Malayalam cinema but in Indian cinema, Marco has sparked considerable attention.
The film features Unni Mukundan alongside a strong cast, including Siddique, Jagadish, Anson Paul, Kabir Duhan Singh, Abimanyu Thilakan, Yukti Thareja and several newcomers. The heroine and other key roles are played by Bollywood actors. Marco has been touted as one of the most violent films in the Malayalam film industry, with action sequences choreographed by renowned director Kalai Kingson.
