The release of Vijay’s much-anticipated film Jana Nayagan, originally scheduled for January 9, 2026, has been postponed due to ongoing scrutiny of its censor certificate

Malik Streams Corporation on Wednesday officially announced that the theatrical release of Jana Nayagan has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. The production team is yet to confirm a revised release date, and fans have been requested to avoid unverified information circulating online.
The postponement comes amid disruptions on ticketing platforms, where the ‘Book Tickets’ option has been removed in multiple cities, including Chennai, Kolkata, Chandigarh, and Hyderabad. Advance bookings have effectively frozen, leaving audiences puzzled and exhibitors cautious.

The delay is linked to ongoing proceedings before the Madras High Court. The court had directed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to constitute a fresh committee to re-examine the film after its certification process was reopened, following claims that certain scenes could hurt religious sentiments. Despite the filmmakers making suggested changes, the final censor certificate has yet to be issued.
Legal sources indicate that the court’s verdict on the certification matter is likely to be delivered on January 9, coinciding with the film’s initially announced release date. Until then, exhibitors have paused ticket sales to avoid last-minute disruptions.
Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan features Vijay, Prakash Raj, Pooja Hegde, and Mamitha Baiju. The film had been submitted to the censor board on December 18, 2025, and despite the completion of required changes, the U/A certification remains pending.
Fans are advised to stay patient as the production and exhibition teams work towards a legally cleared release date, ensuring a smooth theatrical rollout once certification is granted.
