Nearly two decades after three bachelors and an unexpected baby became a Bollywood hit, producer Sajid Nadiadwala has confirmed that ‘Heyy Babyy 2’ is in the works and it's bringing the franchise back to where it all began: Australia.

The news broke on September 3, 2026, when Nadiadwala hosted New South Wales Premier Chris Minns at his Mumbai office to lock in a three-film production deal, with all three projects set to be shot extensively in Australia.

Heyy Babyy 2 is one of the three, and Nadiadwala framed it as a fitting way to relaunch the partnership, since the original film was also filmed there almost twenty years ago.

Premier Minns, for his part, called Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment one of the biggest names in Indian cinema and said their decision to return for three more films was a strong vote of confidence in Australia's screen industry.

What we actually know and don't

Beyond the Australia connection, almost nothing has been confirmed. There's no director attached, no plot details and the biggest question mark of all, no confirmed cast.

The 2007 original was led by Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Riteish Deshmukh, and Fardeen Khan as the trio of bachelors (and one baby) at the center of the chaos, but whether any of them return for the sequel is still unannounced.

What the internet wants to know

The uncertainty around casting has fans speculating hard. A few running theories and jokes from the discussion online:

  • Will Akshay Kumar actually return? Some argue the franchise doesn't work without him, others point out nothing officially ties the original stars to the sequel, and it could just as easily be a fresh cast.
  • What's the actual story going to be? One popular fan pitch, skip a direct rehash and instead do a Father of the Bride-style plot where the now-grown baby is getting married, forcing the three dads back into the picture, though there's scepticism any of the original leads would sign on to play father to a woman in her twenties.
  • Grandfather jokes are already trending - several commenters are only half-joking that the trio should return as grandparents than young bachelors this time around.
  • Sequel fatigue is a real theme. With Cocktail also getting a sequel recently, some are questioning why studios keep reviving mid-2000s comedies specifically, rather than newer, more fondly remembered titles.
  • A few uneasy notes too - some fans have raised concerns about how the "grown-up baby" angle could be handled on screen, given the original child actor has since grown up in public view.

 

For now, ‘Heyy Babyy 2’ remains a title with a production deal but not much else, which, if the comment sections are any indication, isn't stopping anyone from already picking their dream cast.
