If the seasoned actor decides to withdraw, it could boost Shweta Menon’s chances of securing the position.

Kochi: Actor Jagadish is reportedly considering withdrawing his nomination for the post of president of AMMA, the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists. According to reports, he has held discussions with senior actors Mammootty and Mohanlal about the decision. Jagadish is believed to have expressed that, with their consent, he would step aside and supports the idea of a woman taking over the leadership role in AMMA.
Currently, six candidates have submitted their nominations for the top post, including Jagadish, Shweta Menon, Raveendran, Jayan Cherthala, Anoop Chandran, and Devan. If Jagadish decides to withdraw, it could boost Shweta Menon’s chances of securing the position.
For the general secretary role, nominations have been filed by Baburaj, Anoop Chandran, Raveendran, Jayan Cherthala, and Kukku Parameswaran.
The vice-presidential race has attracted nine contenders: Asha Aravind, Anoop Chandran, Raveendran, Jayan Cherthala, Lakshmipriyaa, Navya Nair, Kukku Parameswaran, Unni Sivapal, and Nasser Latif. As per rules, candidates are permitted to contest for only one position. Those who have submitted nominations for multiple posts must withdraw from all but one before the final list is released on July 31.
Jagadish had recently stated that the landscape of the election could shift after the nomination withdrawal deadline. “The members have clear decisions about who should be the office bearers in AMMA. The elections will be held accordingly. This is not a fight or a war. It is a healthy competition between AMMA's children,” he said.
