Priyanka Chopra, who rose to fame after winning the Miss World title, made a successful transition to the silver screen, capturing the hearts of audiences. She made her cinematic debut in the Tamil film Thamizhan in 2002, where she starred opposite Vijay. This was also her first and only Tamil film to date. Recently, a conversation from an interview with Priyanka Chopra's mother, Madhu Chopra, about her entry into the film and her experience working with Vijay, has been widely shared on social media.
In an interview with Lehren Retro, Madhu Chopra revealed that Priyanka had initially shown no interest in doing Thamizhan. However, despite actor's reluctance, her father convinced her to act in the film. "My daughter became part of the movie because of the word given by her father," Madhu Chopra explained. She added that Thalapthay Vijay was patient and respectful throughout the filming process, earning a lot of admiration from Priyanka.
Madhu Chopra also shared that the choreographer for the film was Raju Sundaram, Prabhu Deva’s brother, who worked tirelessly with Priyanka to perfect her dance steps. "Priyanka struggled initially to get the steps right, but since Vijay was an excellent dancer, she worked hard to match his performance. Learning a new language, perfecting her dialogues, and mastering the dance steps was difficult for her. However, with time, she got accustomed to it and developed a strong bond with Vijay," Madhu Chopra said.
Priyanka Chopra is also gearing up for an upcoming project directed by S.S. Rajamouli, which stars Mahesh Babu in the lead role. Additionally, she will play the female lead in the American action-comedy Heads of State, where she stars alongside John Cena and Idris Elba.
