In an interview, the actor recalled an incident during the filming of the Malayalam film Kumbalangi Nights

Actor Ramesh Thilak is now a seasoned performer, especially in Kollywood, and frequently forays into other languages, including notable performances in Malayalam films like Kooman and Kumbalangi Nights. He is currently basking in the success of Abishan Jeevinth's Tourist Family, in which he plays a pivotal role.
In a conversation with Cinema Vikatan, the actor recalled an incident during the filming of the Malayalam film Kumbalangi Nights, directed by Madhu C. Narayanan and written by Syam Pushkaran.
“In Kumbalangi Nights, there is an emotional scene in which Saji, the character played by Soubin, tells Murugan, the role played by me, that he considered me a friend despite being a Tamilian. I found the dialogue very inappropriate and felt it could sound offensive. I shared my concern with the writer.”
“The man was so humble. The moment I approached him with my concern, he immediately cut that dialogue, saying it was totally unintentional. It was a very understanding and gracious gesture,” Ramesh Thilak recalled.
“They could have easily ignored my request and gone ahead with the shot. But they didn’t. That’s the spirit of the Kumbalangi team, and I feel that’s what makes that film so endearing,” stated the Kollywood actor.
As Ramesh continued to speak about his experience working in Kerala, he mentioned the strong friendships he shares with the likes of Fahadh Faasil, Soubin Shahir, Madhu C. Narayanan, Syam Pushkaran, Unnimaya, and the rest of the crew.
This particular anecdote serves as a shining example of cross-industry friendships and underlines the importance of creative and thoughtful inputs by actors in the filmmaking process. Such contributions can be decisive and help avoid potentially major controversies—as in this case.
