“….some scripts that I heard were not satisfactory at all,” said the ace actor.

It’s been six years since the release of Asuran, the hard-hitting Tamil film directed by master filmmaker Vetrimaaran, which brought together two titan actors from South India — Dhanush and Manju Warrier — on screen for the first time.
The film, with its deep socio-political and caste-based undercurrents, notably marked the Tamil debut of the versatile Manju Warrier, an absolute superstar in Malayalam cinema.
To mark six years of this epic film, Prime Video India and Manju Warrier shared stills from the film on social media. The caption read: “Six years ago, vengeance met its match in Sivasaami,” referring to Dhanush’s monumental portrayal of the intricate character.
Strikingly, another anecdote from the film is now doing the rounds on social media — and it’s related to its leading lady, Manju Warrier. Years ago, during the film's release, the actor revealed in a conversation with Cinema Express how she landed the role, much to the intrigue of her fans.
Back then, Manju had said:
“See, doing a Tamil film has always been in my plans, but some scripts that I heard were not satisfactory at all. And then there were directors who thought I would be a value addition to their films. But it took time for things to fall in place, to materialise — and eventually, Asuran happened.”
The Malayalam star had long been an avid admirer of the Dhanush-Vetrimaaran combination, even before she worked with them.
Talking further in the interview, she said:
“See, Dhanush sir himself had previously invited me for some of his films, but things didn’t work out until the Vetrimaaran film.”
“When Asuran was offered — with the powerful duo coming together yet again — I just wanted to be part of the project, even without listening to the script,” she shared with excitement.
“But then Dhanush sir insisted I listen to the script first. And after that process, I instantly said yes,” said the ace actor.
Manju’s candid revelation is yet another example of how certain decisions by actors can lead to magical and powerful cinema — a piece of art that serves as resistance, reminder, and corrective action.
Apart from Dhanush and Manju Warrier, Asuran featured an ensemble cast including Pasupathy, Prakash Raj, Ammu Abhirami, and Aadukalam Naren.
