The release of Drishyam 3, one of Malayalam cinema’s most awaited films, has been officially postponed. Initially scheduled for April 2, the producers Ashirwad Cinemas announced that the film will now hit theatres on May 21, coinciding with Mohanlal’s birthday. The announcement was shared on social media along with the film’s poster, featuring the tagline, “The past never dies, it just waits.”

The delay comes amid speculation that the ongoing West Asian conflict could affect the Gulf release of Malayalam films. However, the producers have not provided an official reason for the postponement. Fans, eagerly awaiting Georgekutty’s return, have expressed mixed reactions to the news, particularly as other Malayalam films, such as Jayasurya’s Aad 3, released as scheduled and performed well at the box office.

Director Jeethu Joseph previously cautioned audiences against expecting a grand spectacle. “Come without any expectations. Drishyam 3 is not like the first or second part. It is a journey through Georgekutty’s emotions. If you come expecting a big spectacle, you will be disappointed. But I am confident that it is a good film,” he said. Jeethu emphasized that the film focuses on the emotional depth of the characters rather than a large-scale drama, encouraging viewers to watch it without comparing it to earlier installments.

Mohanlal also shared the update on social media: “The past never stays silent… it only waits. Georgekutty arrives, May 21st 2026.” Fans across platforms have begun sharing excitement over the birthday release, anticipating a worldwide rollout.

With this new release date, Drishyam 3 is set to continue the legacy of the franchise while providing audiences with an emotionally charged conclusion to Georgekutty’s story.
