‘Border 2’ has stormed the box office, delivering a blockbuster opening weekend and racing past the ₹100 crore milestone in just three days. The sequel to the 1997 hit ‘Border’ posted a remarkable surge on Sunday, cementing its position as one of the strongest performers of the year so far.

According to early estimates from Sacnilk, the film collected ₹54.5 crore on its first Sunday – a sharp 49.32% jump from Saturday’s earnings – pushing its domestic weekend total to an impressive ₹121 crore. The strong run comes ahead of the Republic Day holiday, setting up the film for an extended boost at the box office. 

Weekend numbers surge past expectations

Border 2’ opened on Friday with ₹30 crore and climbed to ₹36.5 crore on Saturday. Its biggest leap arrived on Day 3, when Sunday’s collections surged dramatically, propelling the film well beyond the ₹100 crore club.

‘Border 2’: Day-wise box office (India net):

  • Day 1 (Friday): ₹30 crore
  • Day 2 (Saturday): ₹36.5 crore
  • Day 3 (Sunday): ₹54–54.5 crore
  • Total: ₹121 crore

The three-day total makes ‘Border 2’ Sunny Deol’s second-highest Hindi earner to date, surpassing the opening weekend of ‘Jaat’ (₹88.72 crore). Only his 2023 blockbuster ‘Gadar 2’ continues to lead, with a massive ₹525.7 crore lifetime collection.

Overtakes Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar’ in opening weekend

Border 2 has also outpaced the first-weekend earnings of ‘Dhurandhar’, which recently became India’s highest-grossing Hindi film.

Ranveer Singh’s action drama posted:

  • Day 1: ₹28 crore
  • Day 2: ₹32 crore
  • Day 3: ₹43 crore
  • Three-day total: ₹103 crore

While ‘Dhurandhar’ went on to conclude its run at an estimated ₹1,292 crore worldwide, ‘Border 2’ has decisively beaten its initial three-day tally.

Strong occupancy highlights audience momentum

The film recorded 61.14% overall occupancy in the Hindi belt on Sunday, a robust jump from Saturday’s 41.58%.

  • Evening shows: 77.03%
  • Night shows: 67.15%

The upward trajectory reflects the growing footfall and strong word-of-mouth around the war drama.

Star-studded cast drives box office strength

Directed by Anurag Singh, ‘Border 2’ features a powerful ensemble led by Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh, Varun Dhawan and Ahan Shetty. Produced by Bhushan Kumar, JP Dutta, Nidhi Dutta and Krishan Kumar, the film unfolds against the backdrop of the 1971 India–Pakistan War and has been marketed as a spiritual successor to JP Dutta’s 1997 classic.

Industry reports place the film’s budget between Rs 150 crore and Rs 200 crore, positioning it as one of the most expensive war dramas in recent years.
