Kochi: The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has expressed its support for actress Vincy Aloshious, who recently alleged that she had a disturbing experience with a co-actor under the influence of drugs during a film shoot. The revelation has reignited concerns about substance abuse on film sets and the industry's response to such incidents.

Jayan Cherthala, an office-bearer of AMMA’s ad-hoc committee, told Mathrubhumi News that the organisation is prepared to take disciplinary action, provided Vincy formally identifies the actor involved, even in private.

“Vincy hasn’t revealed the name of the actor who caused the bad experience. Even if it’s confidentially, if she informs AMMA, action will definitely be taken. The committee has unanimously decided on this. AMMA can never condone such behaviour,” said Cherthala.

He added that AMMA's ad-hoc committee had convened specifically to address the issue, marking a shift from earlier criticisms against film bodies for their silence on similar concerns in the industry. Cherthala emphasised that AMMA is taking the matter seriously and urged Vincy to come forward with a complaint.

According to Cherthala, Vincy is holding back, fearing that the controversy over the matter might affect the reception of her upcoming film. “She has said she will definitely file a complaint after a few days,” he added.

Previously, AMMA had said it could not take action as Vincy was not a member of the association.

FEFKA (Film Employees Federation of Kerala) also noted that no written complaint had been submitted. Meanwhile, the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) has pledged full support to Vincy should she choose to pursue legal action.

The controversy began after Vincy made a public clarification regarding a statement she had made earlier. In doing so, she revealed that a male actor, allegedly under the influence of drugs, had misbehaved with her and her colleagues on set.

“While on location, when there was a minor problem with the shoulder of my costume, the actor came up to me and said, ‘Let me see, I’ll fix it for you.’ On another occasion, while practising a scene, I saw him spitting out a white powder. It was clear to me that he was using drugs and that he was using them on set,” Vincy alleged.

She also said that she continued working on the film only because she saw the crew, including the director, struggling to complete the project. As a result of her experience, Vincy said she would no longer work with actors who use drugs.
