Actor Allu Arjun has reflected on the five-year journey of the two-part Pushpa franchise, describing it as “unforgettable.” In a post on X, he thanked fans for their overwhelming support, which, he said, empowered the cast and crew to push creative boundaries.

Allu Arjun also acknowledged the film’s director Sukumar, co-star Arya, producers, distributors, technicians, and the entire unit, calling it an honour to collaborate with them. Pushpa, released in two films over five years, has been a commercial success and a milestone in his career. He is currently shooting for director Atlee’s pan-Indian film, slated for a 2027 release, produced by Sun Pictures.

Reflecting on the film’s impact, Allu Arjun wrote, “This movie’s audience has given us immense love, strength, and courage to dive deeper into our craft. We will always be grateful to everyone in this country and beyond for making it a phenomenon.”

Stampede at Hyderabad theatre: ongoing challenges

A year after the tragic stampede at Sandhya Theatre during Pushpa 2’s release, the family of eight-year-old Sritej continues to struggle. The incident left Sritej critically injured and claimed his mother, Revathi’s, life.

Allu Arjun was arrested by Hyderabad Police on 13 December 2024 and released on interim bail the same day. The actor and the film’s producers announced a Rs 2 crore ex gratia to support the family—Rs 1 crore from Allu Arjun, Rs 50 lakh from Mythri Movie Makers, and Rs 50 lakh from director Sukumar. Dil Raju, via the Telangana Film Development Corporation (TGFDC), was appointed as mediator, and Allu Arjun assured ongoing support for Sritej’s medical expenses.

Despite these measures, Sritej’s father, Magudampalli Bhaskar, said the child requires long-term neuro-rehabilitation. Although discharged after 146 days at KIMS Hospital, Sritej cannot eat, drink, or breathe unaided. The family faces nearly Rs 1.25 lakh in monthly medical and living expenses, with the deposited Rs 2 crore generating insufficient interest to cover ongoing costs. Bhaskar claims that attempts to reach Allu Arjun’s team for additional support have gone unanswered.

Allu Arjun’s spokesperson stated that senior mediators are overseeing fund allocation and emphasised that the actor is not directly managing the financial support. Families can approach mediators if they feel the assistance is inadequate.

Police probe and theatre management accountability

Following the incident, Hyderabad police investigated the theatre management and Allu Arjun’s team. A case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder was filed, citing negligence. Allu Arjun was named as the 11th accused, but three others involved also secured bail.

A show-cause notice to Sandhya Theatre highlighted 11 lapses, including poor crowd management, unclear entry and exit points, inadequate seating, unauthorized banners, and missing security at key gates.

While Pushpa 2: The Rule continues to be celebrated as a pan-Indian phenomenon, the tragic events surrounding its release underscore ongoing safety and support challenges. Allu Arjun’s gratitude toward fans and the team contrasts with the prolonged hardships faced by the stampede victim’s family, highlighting the complex intersection of cinematic success and real-world consequences.
