Chennai and northern coastal districts of Tamil Nadu face continued heavy rain and thunderstorms, with waterlogging and traffic disruptions expected.

Chennai and several northern coastal districts of Tamil Nadu are preparing for another wet day as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issues fresh weather alerts. Persistent rainfall over the past few days has already caused flooding and slowed traffic, and unsettled conditions are expected to continue.
Orange alert in four districts
An Orange Alert is in effect until 10 am for Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu. Moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is forecast in these districts, with potential waterlogging, slippery roads and traffic delays in the morning hours.
Yellow alert in several districts
A Yellow Alert has been issued for Villupuram, Cuddalore, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Pudukottai. Light to moderate rain with isolated thunderstorms and lightning is expected in these areas as the wet spell continues across northern Tamil Nadu.
Waterlogging and traffic disruptions
Authorities warn of possible water accumulation on roads, slippery stretches and traffic slowdowns. Residents are advised to avoid low-lying areas prone to flooding, exercise caution while traveling and stay updated on local weather developments.
